Information for people with disability or healthcare needs
Certain businesses are exempt from the ban.
These exempt businesses can continue to supply banned single-use plastic items after the ban starts to ensure that Queenslanders with disability or healthcare needs are able to access them. Suppliers, distributors and wholesalers of banned items may also continue to sell them to exempt businesses.
Businesses such as cafes, hotels and takeaway food shops can no longer supply banned items, including straws, even when a customer asks for one. People with disability or healthcare needs are encouraged to plan ahead and bring their own single-use plastic items when they are out and about, once the ban begins.
